A 6 mm insulin syringe needle was launched on Tuesday. Launched by Becton, Dickinson and Company, a global medical technology company, it is claimed to be the smallest insulin syringe needle.
C.R. Anand Moses, former head, department of diabetology, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (GH), said insulin played a vital role for type-I diabetes patients and type-2 patients who require insulin to manage diabetes significantly.
He said clinical studies have demonstrated that shorter needles can effectively deliver insulin to the subcutaneous tissue while reducing the risk of injecting into muscle. The 6 mm syringe needles could support appropriate injection techniques as part of diabetes management.
