After four months of basic training, 52 men and three women are all set to join fire stations of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS).
The passing-out parade was held at the State Training Centre in Tambaram Sanatorium on Thursday. Additional director-general of police and director of TNFRS, R.C. Kudawla, took the salute.
Fire officers conducted drills and demonstrated various manoeuvres.
In his address, Mr. Kudawla said training sessions provided maximum inputs towards saving precious lives and property. It was upto the trainees to implement them using their skill and presence of mind.
He said the fire and rescue service was not just a job, but service rendered to society, and asked trainees to keep themselves physically and mentally fit.
In an interaction with mediapersons, he said mini water tenders based on ‘watermist technology’, numbering 52 units, had been procured for the department, and would be despatched to various fire stations across the State.
Further, the department would use smaller vehicles to reach accident spots where approach roads were narrow.
Officials said after their basic training, the newly-inducted firemen would continue with their field training at their respective fire stations.
K. Ponnuswami, joint director (training and rescue services), and K. Thennarasu, assistant district officer, were among others present on the occasion.
