Five Indian Grey Wolf pups, new addition to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, will soon be exhibited to the public.

The pups, which were born on December 6, were let out today in a separate place inside the wolf enclosure. A zoo official said that the pups were born to Keerthi, a grey wolf which was two and a half years old. “After birth, the pups take nearly 20 days to open their eyes.

They are isolated from the other wolves for a while before being released out in the kraal of the wolf enclosure,” he said.

The Indian wolves have been kept in the zoo since 1995 and at present, there are four wolves in the zoo. This is the first birth of Indian wolves recorded in the zoo.

Distributed across the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the wolves are protected under schedule 1 of the Indian Wildlife protection act of 1972.
