Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) plans to give a 40% discount for a week from Monday on all the stretches.
Only smart cards will be issued in the underground stretch of Chennai Metro Rail. But commuters do not need to pay₹100 for every card. “They can get a card for ₹10 and even that is refundable The idea of issuing cards is to encourage people to take the Chennai Metro Rail again,” a CMRL official said.
The other two stretches of Chennai Metro Rail — Koyambedu to Alandur and Little Mount to Chennai airport — will have both tokens and smart cards.
The fares range from ₹10-50.
