Four teenaged girls went missing from their homes in Teynampet on Friday.

The police suspect the girls may have run away after failing in their school examinations.

Keerthana, Asha, Priya and Parameshwari are residents of the slum clearance board tenements in Teynampet. They study in a private school in T. Nagar and had failed in the class IX examinations following which they appeared for a re-examination.

When the results of the re-examination were announced on Friday, the girls found they had failed again. They were asked to bring their parents to the school.

The police said the girls may have run away fearing their parents’ wrath.

When they did not return till late on Friday, the parents lodged a complaint with the Teynampet police.

“During investigation, we learnt that some tea-shop owners at the Koyambedu bus terminus had spotted four young girls, who matched our description, boarding a Tiruchi-bound bus. We are coordinating with the Tiruchi police to trace the girls,” said inspector Rajendran.
