Over 35 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in the city’s government hospitals in the past three days. Hospital officials however said the number of cases – nine in Government Stanley Hospital, 11 in Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, six in the Institute for Child Health and 10 in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital – has come down from the past month.
Of the nine cases in Stanley, two were six-year-old children and one a nine-year old. Many of the patients were from north Chennai. In GH, six men were confirmed as having dengue on Tuesday and four on Monday. Similarly, in KMCH, five cases were reported on Tuesday and six cases on Wednesday.
Corporation officials said measures to control the problem were in place. “We are focussing on children now. We have involved the family welfare department. There are over 50 campaigns being held in the state on a daily basis,” the official said. Doctors at ICH said parents should not self-medicate. “Sometimes, these medicines cause the platelet count to drop leading to other complications”
