The police on Saturday seized invalid ₹1,000 and ₹500 denominations notes amounting to ₹3.42 crore from a van parked on J.J. Lakshmi Avenue, Manapakkam, near Nandambakkam.

Two of the three men who were in the van were held while the third fled. Around noon, officers realised the van had been parked there for a long time. On inspecting it, officers found the cash bundles inside a polythene bag.

Bid to exchange notes

The detained men — Kannan, who works in a private hospital and Krishna Mohan, a sub contractor — told the police that they were waiting to hand over the notes to a person living in the locality for exchange. Officers suspect involvement of more people in the case, including a doctor.
