Three more persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with last week’s murder of a gangster in Vyasarpadi.
The police said, K. Tamilarasan (26), resident of Royapuram, S. Shivakumar (34), resident of MKB Nagar, and S. Baskar (24), resident of Vyasarpadi, were arrested in connection with the murder of K. Prabhakaran (32), an associate of gangster ‘Bokka’ Ravikumar.
A week ago, Prabhakaran, who was himself charged in a 2007 murder case, was killed by two associates of Kamesh alias K. ‘Body’ Saravanan (38) and L. Gopinath (24) to avenge the death of Kamesh.
Kamesh was killed by ‘Bokka’ Ravi Kumar a fortnight ago, as an act of revenge for the death of S. Kalaiarasan.
Personal enmity and revenge triggered a series of murders in north Chennai over the past fortnight, a police officer said.
Last week, 12 persons were held by a special police team in connection with the various murders.
Of the three arrested on Tuesday, Baskar is a close associate of deceased gangster, Kamesh.
Both of them were charged with various thefts in north Chennai in the past. They also jointly served jail terms.
It was Baskar who roped in Tamilarasan and Shivakumar to kill Prabhakaran, the police said.
