Police busted a city-based cab agency on charges of fraudulently operating vehicles affixed with symbols and badges of police officials. Three people, including the owners of the agency, have been arrested and the cars used, seized.

Royapettah police said a team on night patrol on Monday at the Royapettah High Road junction attempted to intercept a car with a prominent police badge. The driver later identified as Rajavadivelu (37) from Royapettah, didn’t stop but was nabbed later.

Rajavadivelu led investigators to a cab agency operating from SPS Koil Street in Royapettah owned by K. Hari (53) and Senthil Kumar (32), also residents of Royapettah. The duo used to rent out cars to some police departments and thereafter, permanently fixed 15 sedans with police badges. Police suspect they were operating the cabs to avoid police checks and are investigating if they were involved in any illegal activity.

Hari, Senthil and Rajavadivelu were arrested for fraud and remanded on Tuesday evening.
