Government Railway Police on Tuesday arrested three men on charges of placing large stones across the railway track between Guduvanchery and Urapakkam on Friday.

Police said K.Gautham (25), C. Paapu and M. Mandya, both 26 years old, hailed from West Bengal and were employed as workers at a construction site in Urapakkam. The three used to meet late at night very often and consume alcohol, sitting across the railway track. On Friday, under the influence of alcohol the three are reported to have had a quarrel over lifting of sleepers from the unused metre gauge railway tracks.

They later placed three pieces of stone across the track. A little later, a train came to a halt after hitting the stones. The policemen spoke to people at the settlement of migrant workers and zeroed in on the suspects.
