The police have arrested a 26-year-old man on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

The girl, who worked in a photocopying shop in Adambakkam, was reported missing by her parents a couple of days ago. A case was registered at the police station and a search launched for the 17-year-old girl.

On Thursday, the girl was located in Ekattuthangal, Guindy. Rajendran, who was present in the same building, is reported to have kidnapped her from her home in Adambakkam.

Following her rescue, a case was registered under sections relating to kidnap and rape, including Sections 366 (A) and 376 of the Indian Penal Code.

The girl returned to her parents. Rajendran, hailing from Villupuram district, worked in a tea stall close to the shop where the girl worked, the police said.
