There have been requests from councillors to include appalam and pickle along with the staple fare of idli, sambar rice and curd rice for lunch.

The civic body is unlikely to agree to the demand citing health aspects. However, it proposes to consult the Chief Minister on introducing ‘pudhina thuvayal’ or ‘karivepilai thuvayal’ in the set menu.

By March 31, 100 more restaurants will be opened across the city. Over 1,200 women from various parts of the city are expected to find work.

‘Amma Unavagams’ in the newly-added areas are expected to cater to those living in slums, daily labourers, drivers, load men and migrant workers. The outlets, however, will not provide takeaway.
