The body of a 21-year-old man has remained unclaimed at the Government Kilpauk Medical College’s mortuary for the past two months.

Since the body has not been identified by a relative and there was nothing on his person to prove his identity, the hospital has been unable to perform an autopsy.

The man was found unconscious in the compartment of a train that had arrived from north India on July 5. The train had been stationed at the Egmore yard for cleaning, when he was found.

The EMRI 108 ambulance service, on receiving a call, picked him up and took him to KMC. When he regained consciousness, hospital authorities enquired about his name and whereabouts.

“He could speak only Hindi. With the help of a few people who spoke the language, we managed to find out that his name was Bindhu Yadav. He said he had been assaulted at Guntur railway station and was thrown into one of the compartments,” said a police officer at the KMC outpost. He died the next morning.

“We contacted the Guntur police but there has been no response,” the officer added.
