A 20-year-old college student was beaten to death near his home in Keelkathirpur village, near Kancheepuram, on Friday evening.

The police are searching for three youths including the victim’s elder brother.

Sources with the Kancheepuram district police said a class IX student of Keelkathirpur had complained to her relatives that Gnana Kumar of the same village was allegedly harassing her and passing unpleasant comments whenever he saw her.

On Friday evening, her elder brothers, Prem Kumar and Ram Kumar were on their way to Gnana Kumar’s house to pull him up for his behaviour. They met him on the way and picked up an argument with him. The brothers then began raining blows on Gnana Kumar, sources said.

Dinesh Kumar, elder brother of Gnana Kumar, too is reported to have joined in and assaulted his younger brother as he had his personal score to settle with him.

Under the onslaught of blows, Gnana Kumar collapsed. He was taken to the Kancheepuram District Government Headquarters Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Baluchetti Chathiram police have registered a murder case and are searching for Prem Kumar, Ram Kumar and Dinesh Kumar.
