203 prisoners clear SSLC

The pass percentage of prisoners in the SSLC examinations rose to 93% this year from 88% in 2016.

As many as 228 prisoners appeared for the exam at five centres — Central Prison, Puzhal-I, Vellore, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, and Palayamkottai — out of which 203 passed.

Nine women passed with good scores, a prison official said.

Abubakkar Siddique, 39, from Central Prison, Palayamkottai, emerged the topper among prisoners with a score of 422 marks.

N. Neelakandan, 25, in Central Prison, Puzhal-I, stood second and S. Senthilmurugan, 36, Central Prison, Tiruchi, came third, the official said.
