The Puzhal prison authorities on Friday placed two staff members under suspension following the murder of a 34-year-old history-sheeter, ‘Boxer’ Murali, inside the prison on Wednesday.

Five remand prisoners killed Murali while he was inside the toilet. The attackers — Saranraj, Karthik, Joel, Pradeep and Ramesh — were arrested.

Ashutosh Shukla, ADGP, Prisons, reviewed the security arrangements inside the prison and analysed the circumstances which led to the murder inside the prison complex.

After conducting a preliminary enquiry, he issued orders placing Assistant Jail Superintendent Palanivel and Chief Warder Nagaraj under suspension for dereliction of duty.

The prison authorities shifted 18 remand prisoners to the Tiruchi and Cuddalore prisons.
