17-year-old boy arrested on charge of murder

The police have arrested a 17-year-old boy of Pattapadu, Andhra Pradesh, for murdering a 62-year-old woman at Maraimalai Nagar on Wednesday.

The accused who was friendly with Pitchammal and her husband, Subbaiah (69), retired government servant, visited their place on Wednesday and told them that he was leaving for Tiruchi as he got a job. Later, Subbaiah went out to a bank, leaving behind his wife and him in the house. When he returned at 11-30 a.m., he saw the accused sitting outside the house with the main door locked. After some time, the accused escaped. Subbaiah and neighbours found the body of Pitchammal in the storeroom of the house around 7 a.m. on Thursday. He lodged a complaint. An inquiry led the police to Chennai where they arrested the accused who confessed that he had murdered the woman and taken away gold jewellery.
