16 gold bars seized

Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at the airport on Wednesday seized 16 gold bars, weighing 100 grams each, from two passengers who arrived from Sri Lanka.

The passengers have been arrested. The officials intercepted Tharmar Samuthiram, holder of an Indian passport, at the exit point of the Customs hall. Asked whether she was carrying gold items, she replied in the negative. An interrogation led to the recovery of 10 gold bars concealed in her rectum.

Similarly Muthiah Asaithambi, also holder of an Indian passport, informed Customs that he was not carrying any valuables. Finally, he admitted that he had concealed six gold bars in his rectum.
