12-yr-old killed in accident

A 12-year old girl, who was riding pillion with her father near Raj Bhavan in Guindy on Sunday night, was killed, when a speeding bike rammed into the two-wheeler they were on. The girl was thrown off the bike in the impact, and fell under the wheels of an oncoming government bus.

According to police, the victim, identified as H. Shailaja, was taken to a private hospital, where she was declared ‘brought dead'. Her father was unhurt in the accident.

The man on the speeding bike was identified as Suresh, and was part of a group that was allegedly bike racing there. Members of the public at the site of the accident beat up Suresh, and he suffered injuries, police said. His bike was also damaged.

The victim and her father, Hariharan, were residents of Dandeeshwara Nagar in Velachery and her father is an officer with Canara Bank.
