Eleven engineering colleges have received AICTE approval and are all set to open this academic year, Anna University vice-chancellor P. Kaliraj said at a press conference on Thursday.

The process for affiliation should be over in a week, he said. The opening of these institutions will add nearly 3,300 seats to the existing 2 lakh ones. Another constituent college of the university will also commence operations in Srirangam this year, the V-C said.

Once classes start on August 1, bridge courses in mathematics will be offered to students as part of the main curriculum. “The syllabus for the courses will be on the website soon. Students can prepare the concepts in the vacation,” Prof. Kaliraj said.

CBSE students applying for engineering courses have to submit copies of their mark sheets at Anna University by 5.30 p.m. on May 30. They also need to submit the revised copies of their mark sheets at the university before academic counselling begins on June 21. “They need to submit their forms before May 20. They can later send us copies of their mark sheets with their application number on it,” Prof. Kaliraj said. CBSE results are expected after May 25.

“Those from State board need not submit their re-evaluated marks because we will receive a CD of marks from the school education department,” the V-C said. Also, the students need not enclose transfer certificate with their forms, and those who have studied here for last five years do not need send nativity certificates. They can bring them during counselling, he said.
