As many as 1084 stretches will be turned to cement concrete roads in the city.
The Chennai Corporation will convene a meeting with line agencies including telecom service providers, Metrowater and TANGEDCO this week to initiate measures to prevent cutting of roads in such stretches.
The stretches identified for laying cement concrete roads include Mylapore South Mada Street, Anna Nagar 12th Main Road and 13th Main Road.
The total length of the roads to be concretised is 181 km. A total of 161 roads in Tiruvottiyur zone, 102 in Manali, 42 in Madhavaram, 80 in Tondiarpet, 87 in Royapuram, 21 in Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, 120 in Ambattur, 45 in Anna Nagar, 24 in Teynampet, 40 in Kodambakkam, 90 in Valasaravakkam, 47 in Alandur, 60 in Adyar, 96 in Perungudi and 69 in Sholinganallur will be concretised.

The civic body has already initiated a pilot project to lay a white topping of cement concrete over black tar roads on Velachery Main Road.
This is part of a series of initiatives taken by the Corporation to implement alternative technology in the laying of roads.
The alternative technology is set to enhance the life of roads up to 30 years.
The technology is also more cost-effective than bituminous roads.
