100 held for smuggling PDS rice: police

The Civil Supplies CID wing of Tamil Nadu police today said that 100 persons have been detained so far this year under the Prevention of Black Marketing Act for attempting to smuggle PDS rice to other States.

The agency also recovered Rs 4.46 crore worth 28,127 quintals of rice and more than 1.29 lakh litres of kerosene oil besides LPG cylinders and booked cases under the Essential Commodities Act, arresting more than 3,000 persons for attempting to smuggle these essential commodities.

Civil Supplies CID ADGP S.K. Dogra said in a release here that persons involved in smuggling of PDS rice were being booked under the Prevention of Black Marketing Act.

Police have stepped up vigil to prevent smuggling of the rice given at Re one per kg for the beneficiaries.
