The police have arrested ten persons in connection with the murder of an undertrial inside a bus on Friday.

According to the police, a 15-member gang stormed an MTC bus inside Red Hills terminus and hacked Deva alias Devarajan (24) to death on Friday.

He was escorted by two policemen and was being taken back to Tiruchi jail after a court hearing in Ponneri.

Seven of the assailants were rounded up by the police from Maduravoyal later in the evening. “Dinesh and his team who are part of a gang headed by Sridhar killed Deva’s brother ‘Mandi’ Srinivasan.

Dinesh is in jail for the murder. Deva had sworn to kill at least one of his brother’s murderers. In order to prevent that, the gang killed Deva,” a police officer said.

Deva was involved in various cases including murder and theft and was lodged in Tiruchi Central prison.

“We have arrested ten persons and seized two vehicles in the case of Deva’s murder,” said the officer.
