10 boys flee govt. home

December 26, 2014 02:22 am | Updated 02:27 am IST - CHENNAI:

Ten children ran away from the Government Observation Home for Boys in Kellys on Wednesday night.

According to the police, 47 children are housed in one block inside the home — 20 on the ground floor and the rest on the first.

Two wardens, Ezhumalai and Rajendran, have been appointed for the block. Around 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Rajendran was inspecting a room.

“When Rajendran opened the door to the room, he was taken by surprise when one of the boys reportedly attacked him with a tubelight and ran out with three others,” an officer of the Secretariat Colony police said.

Ezhumalai, who was inspecting a room, rushed to help Rajendran.

“Meanwhile, six other children in the room that he was checking also fled,” the officer said.

The Secretariat Colony police have registered a case. “Teams are checking within the city as well as the suburbs. All railways stations and bus terminuses are also being checked,” he said.
