Round-the-clock phone numbers set up to report fire accidents

The police department has issued an advisory urging the public to celebrate a safe Deepavali.

In a press release, R. Ponni, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvannamalai, asked the public to call the following phone numbers in case of fire accidents during Deepavali celebrations: 04175 -233234 and 04175-233633. Public can also send photos and SMS to the mobile number – 94981 53095.

The department has also deployed police personnel and erected watch towers in crowded places such as bus terminals, railway station and bazaar.

The police have advised public not to allow children to burst crackers alone and to avoid crackers that produce too much of smoke and noise. Crackers should be burst from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and not after 10 p.m. Crackers such as rockets should be burst in an open ground. Those residing near hospitals should avoid bursting crackers that produce too much of noise. Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby,, and avoid crackers in places where there are thatched houses, the release said.
