The historic novel titled “1801” authored by M. Rajendran, an IAS officer turned writer, was reviewed at the regular session of the Paalam Readers Circle, attached to Paalam the Book Meet book stall, in the city on Sunday.

Renowned writers Imayam and Vennila reviewed the novel.

The book was about the first freedom struggle fought against East India Company and the agitations and other events that took place in various parts of the State during this period.

The characters portrayed in the historical novel are Veerapandiya Kattabomman, his brothers Umaiththuai and Sevathaiya, Chinna Maruthu, Periya Maruthu, Velu Nachiyar, Khan Sahib, Tipu Sultan and Robert Clive and various British officers of that time.

Both Mr. Imayam and Ms. Vennila said that elaborating in detail the historical events in the form of a novel is not an easy affair and that has been commendably done by this versatile writer.

Mr. Rajendran, managing director, Sago Serve, explained the efforts put in by him and the support received from different quarters while working on this novel.

Mr. Rajendran has authored many more books. His auto-fiction “Vadakarai Oru Vamsaththin Varalaru” was acclaimed as great work in various quarters.

He has also authored four books on Chera, Chola, Pandiya, Pallava Seppdugal.

Interaction session with the author formed part of the event.

P. C. Senthilkumar presided over the book review session and P. Sahasranamam, convenor of the Paalam Readers Circle, also spoke.
