The daughter of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator survived a murderous assault on her in the city’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area on Monday.

The victim, Ashwini Reddy, is the daughter of Sanjeev Reddy Bodkurwar, the BJP MLA from Wani constituency in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district.

She has been living in Pune in order to pursue her MBA studies from a city-based management institute.

The assailant, a fellow student identified as Rajesh Bakshi (23), allegedly followed the victim as she set out from her hostel to the institute and attacked her with a sharp weapon, grievously injuring fingers of her left hand, almost severing three of them.

The victim, undergoing treatment at a private hospital, is said to be out of danger and the assailant in police custody.

According to the Wakad police, the assault prima facie appears to be a case of unrequited passions. They said they are in the process of lodging a case against the apprehended assailant.
