A 23-year-old youth working in Dubai, who had come to Bengaluru to attend his sister’s wedding, died on the spot after his car overturned on NICE Road in the early hours on Monday.

The deceased, Shukur, was from Madikeri. His friends Rafeeq (32) and Zakariya (32) escaped with minor injuries, the Electronics City traffic police said.

Sources said that Shukur works for a leading mobile phone company in Dubai and had gone to China on a business trip. He had arrived in Bengaluru on a five-day break to attend his sister's wedding, which was scheduled on Monday.

According to the police, Rafeeq, Zakariya and another friend Yogesh received him at Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday night. His friends had hired a self-drive taxi to travel to Madikeri. Shukur was driving.

After dropping Yogesh at Silk Board Junction, the trio were heading to Madikeri when the accident occurred around 1.45 a.m.

Police suspect that Shukur may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Rafeeq and Zakariya have been discharged after being administered first aid.
