A 23-year-old youth working in Dubai, who had come down to Bengaluru to attend his sister’s wedding, was killed on the spot in an accident on NICE Road in the wee hours on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Shukur. The police said that the accident occurred when Shukur lost control over the car he was driving and hit the median, causing the vehicle to overturn. While Shukur died on the spot, his friends Rafeeq (32) and Zakariya (32) escaped with minor injuries.

According to the Electronics City traffic police, who have registered a case, Shukur was driving to Madikeri to attend his sister’s wedding scheduled on Monday. Rafeeq, Zakariya and another friend Yogesh received Shukur at Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday night. The police said after dropping off Yogesh at Silk Board Junction, the trio headed to Madikeri when the accident occurred at around 1.45 a.m.

The police suspect that Shukur may have fallen asleep at the wheel, which could have caused the accident. While Shukur died on the spot, Rafeeq and Zakariya were rushed to a nearby hospital and later discharged.
