The Hebbagodi police have arrested a 19-year-old youth who made a hoax bomb call to Narayana Hrudayalaya in Electronics City two days ago for fun.

The accused has been identified as Ashwin Kumar, a native of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, who called the hospital on February 15, stating that a bomb has been planted on the premises.

The hospital administration alerted the Hebbagodi police. The security around the hospital was stepped up. The bomb disposal squad, which was pressed into service, rushed to the spot and sanitised the entire hospital premises to confirm it as a hoax.

The Hebbagodi police found that the call was made from a mobile phone and traced the call to Ashwin Kumar, who owns a paan shop near Nelamangala.

Ashwin Kumar was bundled into the station and a detailed questioning revealed that Ashwin’s aunt had been to the hospital for treatment. She had got a slip from the hospital and left it with him.

Ashwin Kumar who had the outpatient slip on Saturday dialled the helpline number and reportedly said hat a bomb has been planted and disconnected the call.

The police have recovered the mobile phone and the outpatient slip from him. Further investigation is on.
