Youth arrested for bid to loot ATM

Kamakshipalya police arrested a 26-year-old youth for attempting to loot an ATM.

The accused, V. Santosh Kumar Naik hails from Ananthapura and was working as a data-entry operator in a supermarket in Hyderabad.

On March 31, around 4.30 am, he went to Union Bank ATM in Basaveshwara Nagar and assaulted Nagraj, the security guard.

When Nagraj put up resistance, Santosh fled. An alert resident contacted the night beat police, who were on patrol, and a hunt was launched following which the accused was chased and nabbed.

During the interrogation, Santosh told the police he had taken a Rs. 6 lakh loan from a few people and was unable to repay the amount.

Since he used to frequent the city, as his sister, who is married was staying in Basaveshwara Nagar, he attempted to loot the ATM. He believed that by doing so, he could clear his debts.

A case has been registered.
