A day after a homemaker was found strangled to death in Kempe Gowda Nagar in the city, another woman, this time a real estate agent, was found brutally murdered at her residence in Yashodha Nagar in Yelahanka on Wednesday afternoon.

The partially nude body of Sujata Reddy (45) was found face down with the throat slit by her aunt Swarna Gowri who came to visit her. Some of her jewellery was missing, the police said.

Sujata had asked her aunt the night before to accompany her on a personal errand on Wednesday. Ms. Gowri, who was worried that her calls went unanswered, went over to her niece’s house to check for herself. She found the door bolted from the outside. She unbolted the door and went in to find her niece’s body.

A shocked Ms. Gowri called the Yelahanka police, who they said the murderer appeared to have known the victim as there were no signs of struggle or forced entry. They are yet to confirm any sexual assault though they’re not discounting a crime of passion. Though some jewellery was missing, they’re not entirely convinced about the murder-for-gain theory.

The murder weapon too hasn’t been found yet.

Background

Sujata, a native of Mulbagal, is survived by her daughters Manasa and Meghna, both married. Her husband, Eshwar Reddy, a lecturer, passed away three years ago. Following this, she moved to Yelahanka taking a house on lease.
