The government’s decision okaying the proposal to form the Electronic City Industrial Township Authority is likely to be challenged in court with Yediyur councillor N.R. Ramesh set to file a petition.
Mr. Ramesh had wanted to bring Electronics City under Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) jurisdiction, which would bring the civic authority Rs. 300 crore in revenue (by way of property tax).
“Electronics City is surrounded by Singasandra and Begur wards of the BBMP. Since most amenities to the area are provided by the civic authority, why should it not be included in BBMP limits?” Mr. Ramesh asked.
He said that by forming the authority, the government will have no control over the area.
The decision will also mean less revenue for the local authorities, as 70 per cent of the revenue collected by the authority will be used for “local area improvements”.
