Yeddyurappa says ‘no’ to BJP–JD(S) pact in BBMP

June 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:45 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Bharatiya Janata Party State president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Friday said it would be wiser for the party not to have a tie-up with the Janata Dal (Secular) to wrest power in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Speaking to city MLAs at the party office, he said such an alliance was not necessary in the present context. This gains significance in the light of the JD(S) warming up to the ruling Congress to bag the post of the Legislative Council Chairman.

With little time left for the term of the Bengaluru Mayor and the Deputy Mayor to end, there were rumours of talks being already on to break the present Congress–JD(S) combine and for the BJP to take the lead. Last year, the BJP, which had a majority in the BBMP council, ended up in the Opposition with the Congress–JD(S) alliance in place. The party lost out all key posts as a result.
