Yeddyurappa holds meet on Bangalore's infrastructure

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Monday chaired a high-level meeting with Ministers representing constituencies in Bangalore city, including Minister for Transport R. Ashok and Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs S. Suresh Kumar, to discuss steps to improve Bangalore city's infrastructure.

Mr. Ashok told presspersons that the discussions centred around upgrading some of the arterial roads and making the Outer Ring Road traffic signal-free. Work on the stretch of the ring road between the Central Silk Board and Mysore Road would be taken up for widening shortly and several flyovers and underpasses would be constructed, among them being one at Padmanabhanagar and another at the intersection of the Kanakapura Road and J.P. Nagar.

He said the plan was to give charge to the Bangalore Development Authority to fund and execute the upgradation works although the formal concurrence and clearance of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike would be obtained.

With reference to the introduction of new security number plates for motor vehicles, Mr. Ashok said the State Government was awaiting the revocation of a stay order on the matter ordered by the Karnataka High Court. Thereafter, fresh tenders would be floated and it would be in accordance with the directions of the Union Government and the Supreme Court.

In the meanwhile, the State Government is in the process of issuing an order to provide for all India permit for lorries as approved by the Centre. All lorries seeking the permit will have to pay Rs. 15,000 for plying across the country.
