Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa visited the Manipal Hospital where victims of the fire accident at the Carlton Towers on Old Airport Road are being treated. Expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased, he said: “This was indeed a very unfortunate accident.” Further, he announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs. 15,000 to those injured. “The State government will bear all medical expenses of those injured in this accident,” Mr. Yeddyurappa announced.
Action will be taken
Katta Subramanya Naidu, the minister in-charge for Bangalore City and State minister for IT/BT, also visited the hospital. “There appear to be violations in the construction of the building built nearly a decade ago. I am calling for a meeting of the officials to know about the construction. We will be taking a decision in two days in consultation with the Chief Minister,” he said.
