Writers, intellectuals, theatre personalities and artistes have urged the Karnataka government against releasing 6000 cusecs of Cauvery water to neighbouring state Tamil Nadu as directed by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Over 100 writers, including Jnanpith awardees Girish Karnad, Chandrashekara Kambara, film maker Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, writer Chandrashekara Patil, representatives of Kannada Sahitya Parishat came together at Raveendra Kalakshetra on Wednesday morning and decided to pressurise the State government against releasing water.
Speaking to The Hindu , writer K. Marulasiddappa said: "It was unanimously decided to seek intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the issue. We appeal to him to convene a meeting of Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry to find an amicable solution to the issue,” he said.
Urging all the Members of Parliament to submit their resignations to Speaker of Lok Sabha and Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.
“All the writers and artistes will go to Mandya tomorrow to participate in the ongoing protest by Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi,” Mr. Marulasiddappa said.
