When music composer Pyarelal (of Laxmikant-Pyarelal fame) was requested to come over for a programme a few months ago, he had said that he generally doesn’t move out of Mumbai these days.

“But the minute he heard the programme was to be in Bengaluru, the maestro said, ‘Hamaara Bangalore? Zaroor aayenge’,” recall members of Rotary Bangalore Junction. Ask Pyarelalji about it and he laughs.

“I am the damaad (son-in-law) of Bangalore. I used to have a flat here until recently,” he explains, pointing to his wife Sunila Sharma who proudly reveals her relation to playwright Girish Karnad and badminton champion Prakash Padukone. “I am a Konkani from Ranebennur, and we all love Bangalore,” she said.

On Sunday, Pyarelal will bring in 60 musicians from his troupe to present hits from the golden era of Hindi music at a fund-raiser for Rotary’s TEACH Mission (venue: Christ University auditorium, 6 p.m. onwards).

Speaking to The Hindu , Pyarelal said that he was associated with two Kannada films, one being Aranya Dalli Abhimanyu in the 1980s. Is he open to composing for a Kannada film now? “If everything falls in place, I would be only too happy to score for a Kannada flick here. After all, I have had very good ties with southern producers/directors, including L.V. Prasad for whom I did Ek Duje Ke Liye ,” he said.
