The work on construction of 1,512 flats for the economically weaker sections (EWS) at Ejipura has commenced after the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) approved the development plan, the High Court of Karnataka was informed on Wednesday.

Reports in this regard were submitted before a Division Bench comprising Justice Jayant M. Patel and Justice S. Sujatha during the hearing of a contempt of court petition, which had complained that construction had not commenced despite lapse of deadline even for completion of the work.

The EWS Residential Welfare Association, in its petition had alleged that the BBMP and the State government disobeyed the court’s August 2012 order for allotment of flats within 24 months.

Following this, the court on May 31 set a deadline for approval of plan, payment of 50% of development charge by the developer, Maverick Holdings and Investment Pvt. Ltd., and for commencement of construction work after the BBMP explained difficulties in approving plan, etc.

Meanwhile, the court made it clear that it is open to the developer to move the BBMP for any infirmities in the sanctioned plan but with the clear understanding that the progress of the construction shall not be hampered in any manner.

If the developer approaches the BBMP for any reason, the same should be considered as early as possible, the court said.
