A 66-year-old woman was murdered in her house in Annapurneshawari Nagar police station limits. The police suspect that the perpetrator was someone known to the victim, identified as Rajamma.
She ran a small shop near her house in Gauramma Layout, and lived alone, said a police officer.
“Our preliminary probe reveals that the murder took place on Tuesday night. The assailant managed to sneak inside the house around 11.30 p.m. while she was fast asleep. He strangled her,” he added.
The murder came to light when a neighbour came to check on her.
“Everything in the house is intact. All the valuables, including a gold chain she was wearing, have been accounted for,” said an officer.
A case has been registered with the jurisdictional police and a probe has been ordered.
