Evicted neighbour was the assailant

A 45-year-old woman was stabbed to death while her daughter was injured in an attack by a car driver at their house in Hoysala Nagar in Sunkadakatte on Sunday.

The deceased, Sarojamma, and her daughter, Shruthi (24), were the only ones at home when the incident occurred. The accused has been identified as Ganesh, who was also living in the same building.

The Kamakshipalya police said Ganesh had been working as a driver for the landlord, Ravi, and had rented out a portion in the same building.

Quoting residents of the building, the police said that Sarojamma and Ganesh used to have frequent fights. Shruthi was conducting tuition classes at their home. On Saturday, Ganesh reportedly asked one of the tenants to stop sending her child to Shruthi’s tuition classes. Enraged by this, Sarojamma and Shruthi had a fight with Ganesh and complained to the landlord.

Ravi then asked Ganesh to immediately vacate his house. Ganesh left the building on Saturday night.

Around 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, Sarojamma and Shruthi were at home when Ganesh came to their house and allegedly stabbed Sarojamma on the neck and stomach. Shruthi, who tried to intervene, was also stabbed on the back, the police said.

Sarojamma succumbed to injuries soon after while Shruthi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is recovering.

The police said the residents had been too afraid to stop Ganesh who later fled.

The Kamakshipalya police have registered a case of murder and are on the lookout for Ganesh.
