Woman killed in hit and run accident

Her six-year-old son sustained head injuries

In tragic incident, a 30-year-old working woman was killed on the spot and her six-year-old son sustained head injuries in a hit and run accident at K.R. Puram on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Poornima, was a resident of Koudenahalli and an employee of ITI, near Tin Factory flyover.

According to the police, Poornima and her son Shiva Gowda were heading towards her workplace for the Independence Day celebrations on a two-wheeler around 8 a.m. when the accident occured. While they were on ITI service road, a speeding car coming from railway station side towards K.R. Puram knocked them down. The driver fled the scene.

Both Poornima and Shiva Gowda were not wearing helmets. While Poornima died on the spot, Shiva sustained head injuries. Passersby informed the police, who rushed Shiva to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences. They shifted Poornima’s body to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for post mortem.

The police recovered a broken number plate, bearing partial registration number ME 409, of the car from the accident spot. They are also analysing CCTV footage from nearby junctions to identify the car and the driver. K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case of hit and run.
