A daily wage worker, mother of two daughters, was raped allegedly by three persons who then dumped her in front of her residence in Magadi taulk on Tuesday night.

The accused persons allegedly threatened the woman of killing her daughters if she disclosed the matter to anyone. However, the woman along with her mother, informed the local police and filed a complaint of gang rape, police said. The crime occurred between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. but came to light at 10.30 p.m. after the woman gained consciousness. The victim narrated her ordeal to her relatives.

The Magadi police, quoting the victim, said the woman was returning form Magadi tahsildar’s office where she had gone to apply for Aadhaar card.

An autorickshaw driver, identified as Chinnu alias Salim alias Wasim and three others, suspected to be relatives, allegedly kidnapped her in Salim’s autorickshaw.

The victim was waiting for a bus when the accused persons approached her at 6.30 p.m.. All the four, who were in the vehicle, offered her a lift saying that they were also going to her village. When the vehicle reached an isolated place, they dragged her inside the forest area off Magadi-Savanadurga Main Road and sexually abused her, the police said.

After sexually assaulting the victim, the accused persons dumped the completely exhausted woman in front of her residence. They reportedly told her family members that the victim sustained injuries after their autorickshaw overturned on the road.

“The accused persons fled the scene within minutes after dumping the woman,” one of the relatives of the victim told presspersons in Chandurayana Halli on Wednesday night.

A case of gang-rape under certain provisions of Indian Penal Code has been registered in the Magadi police station. According to the sources, the police have detained three persons in connection with the crime.

When contacted, Anupam Agarwal, Superintendent of Police (Ramanagaram), told The Hindu: “We have recorded the statement of the victim and are investigating.”
