A woman was killed and six were injured when their sports utility vehicle (SUV) overturned and fell off a flyover after hitting a median on National Highway 7 near Sidlaghatta in Chickballapur district in the early hours of Monday.

Around 5.30 a.m., Bangalore resident Pramila (35) and her family were returning from their pilgrimage from Mantralayam when their vehicle rammed a median on the flyover on the highway.

Police said the car flipped three times before it toppled down the flyover.

Pramila died on the spot, while her husband, Guruprasad, an employee of a private telecom company, their children, Pranthi and Pranav, her brother, Anand, and the driver of the vehicle, Mrityunjay, suffered injuries. Police described their condition as being “out of danger”.

According to the police, the road up till the flyover was undivided.

The driver could not stop in time as he noticed the median at the start of the flyover.

The family had gone on a pilgrimage to Mantralayam, and from there to Kurnool, and were headed home.
