October 11, 2010 12:10 pm | Updated 12:10 pm IST - BANGALORE:

A 65-year-old woman died when a wall collapsed after a domestic gas cylinder exploded in the adjoining house in Cox Town here on Sunday.

The Pulakeshi Nagar police gave the name of the dead as Pillamma, a resident of CSK Naidu Road. The police said that there was a blast in the house of Suresh, who stays in the adjoining house, around 7 a.m. Pillamma came under the rubble and she died.

Suresh, a manager in a resort, was staying in the ground floor of the two-storeyed building.

His mother, Sharadamma (62), wife Nagalakshmi (35) and sister Kavita (25), were staying along with him.

A leakage in the domestic gas cylinder in Suresh's house resulted in the blast. “It could be that they forgot to switch off the cylinder or turned the regulator off,” a police officer said. At the time of the blast, Pillamma was sitting outside her house, he added.

Sharadamma, Nagalakshmi and Kavita suffered burns. It also caused damage to two other houses.

Burglary

Gold ornaments weighing about 80 grams were taken away from the house of Manoj, a private company employee, in Udayanagar 2nd Cross in K.R. Puram, according to the police.

The K.R. Puram police said Manoj had gone with his family to his native place. The gold ornaments were kept in a cupboard.
