A 31-year-old homemaker committed suicide by setting herself on fire at her house in Lakshmi Narayana Colony in Yeshwanthpura on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Veena, wife of Shivalingappa, an engineer with the Indian Insttitute of Science. The couple got married six years ago and have two children, including a nine-month-old baby girl.

According to the police, Veena was reportedly suffering from post-partum depression and was under medication. On Thursday morning, when her husband was out, she reportedly set herself on fire. Neighbours rushed to her help and shifted her to a hospital where she succumbed to injuries.

The Yeshwanthpura police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
