A 25-year-old woman hung herself to dead at her residence at Vaddarahalli Main Road in Vidyaranyapura police station limits on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Latha, was married to a small-time real-estate businessman, Siddalingesh, for about two-and-a-half-years. The couple have a one-and-a-half year old son.

According to the complaint filed by Latha’s parents, Latha’s in-laws harassed her for dowry. They said that she had come to her parents’ house at Channapatna recently, following a dispute with her in-laws over dowry. However her parents sent her back after reconciliation few days ago.

According to the police, Latha hanged herself from the ceiling of the room after her husband left for work and her in-laws had gone out for market. The incident came to light after the victim’s in-laws returned home and found the body hanging from the ceiling fan at around 3 p.m.. They immediately informed police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Police did not find any suicide note from the scene.

“Based on a complaint filed by victim’s parents, we have registered a death due to dowry harassment case under section 304 (B) of the IPC and have detained the in-laws. We are questioning them”, said an investigating officer.

A case has been registered in Vidyaranyapura police station in this connection.
