A 27-year-old woman was charred to death while three persons sustained burn injuries when a chemical godown caught fire at Seegehalli on the outskirts of the city on Friday.

The godown, owned by Khaniram and Kalish, was rented it out to Ramlal, a city-based businessman, to store chemicals to prepare toilet cleaners. The fire was noticed at around 10.30 a.m. Some of the employees rushed out and alerted the police but by then the fire had engulfed the godown.

Gayathri, who was trapped in the godown, was charred to death while three other employees sustained burn injuries. Six fire tenders rushed to the spot and after four hours of operation put out the fire.

The police have registered a case of death due to negligence and efforts are on to trace the godown owners.
