Officials of Air Intelligence and Customs arrested a 39-year-old woman at the Kempegowda International Airport for smuggling 1640 grams of amphetamine and Harish worth ₹64 lakh to Colombo from Chennai via Bengaluru concealed in pesticide packets. The accused was arrested following a tip-off on Saturday.

Fathima Azeeka Junaideen, a resident of Chennai, claimed that she was running a beauty parlour in Colombo and would visit Chennai frequently to buy beauty products. She had even rented a room in Chennai to stay whenever she travelled there. When inquired, she told the officials that her husband had told her that a person would deliver certain insecticides and that she should bring it to Colombo. She was asked to hand over the sachets branded ‘Barrix Control’ — a multi action plant growth promoter — to a person at the Colombo airport.

The officials suspect that the accused is part of the international drug racket and investigations are on.
