A 28-year-old teacher was allegedly kidnapped by three persons in a car near her apartment on Sunday night and assaulted before she was left on the roadside near Kasavanahalli, in an unconscious state, in the early hours of Monday.
The victim, who sustained multiple injuries, has been admitted to St. John's hospital. The Bellandur police are searching for the culprits based on the registration number of the car provided by a couple who witnessed the kidnapping.
According to the police, the victim was walking towards her apartment on Sarjapur Road around 9.15 p.m. when three men in a car intercepted her and pulled her into the vehicle. The victim screamed for help and kicked the doors to get out, but the kidnappers sped away.
A couple, who were passing by, noticed the incident and alerted the police control room. They gave police the registration number of the car. A few other residents tried to chase the car, but could not stop the kidnappers, said the police.
The police added that the trio took the victim to an isolated place where they allegedly assaulted her before dumping her on the roadside.
The Bellandur police will be recording the statement of the victim to identify the culprits.
However, the mother of the victim told the police that the woman had a fight with her before leaving the apartment, and returned on Monday afternoon.
The victim has refused to give a statement stating that she had gone on her own and came back, the police said, adding that her condition was stable.
The police, who have analysed CCTV camera footage from the area, did not find any clue of a possible kidnap. “However, we have taken up a suo motu case of kidnapping at Bellandur police station and efforts are on to track down the car,” a senior police officer said.
DCP Whitefield Abdul Ahad said that the police are investigating to ascertain the sequence of events in the case.
